Setting up the Email2Fax gateway

This step is only applicable to users with a mail server! If you do not have a mail server, you can skip this. If you are using Lotus Notes, please follow the special chapter on Configuring FAXmaker for Lotus Notes. To configure FAXmaker as an Email to fax and Fax to email gateway;

  1. Create a DEDICATED mailbox for FAXmaker on your mail server, which FAXmaker will use to send and receive faxes, e.g. fax@company.com. Call the mailbox 'fax', so that the function of the mailbox is clear to the users.
  2. In the FAXmaker configuration, right-click on the Email2faxGateway node, and select properties. This brings up the Email2FAX Gateway setup dialog.

Email2fax Gateway setup

  1. Tick 'Enable E-Mail2Fax Gateway' to enable the Email2FAX Gateway.
  2. In SMTP settings (upload), specify the SMTP server name and the SMTP port. Do not change the port setting unless you are sure that another port should be used.
  3. In Fax server 'Sender' e-mail address: enter the POP3 mailbox that is used for the fax server.
  4. In POP3 settings (download) specify the name of the POP3 server (usually the same as the SMTP server) and POP3 port. Specify the POP3 mailbox account name and password. You can also specify the Login method. When you are ready, click OK.
Checking the mail server name

The Mail server name is usually the name of the machine running the mail server. This is the name that you would enter in the setup of your POP3 client, for example 'Mail server'. To check whether you are entering the correct mail server name, you can use the Ping utility. Start up a Command prompt window (can be found on the Task bar), and enter ping, followed by the mail server name.

If the ping utility returns 'unknown host', you have not entered the name of the mail server correctly.

If the ping utility returns a value something like this;

Pinging mailfaxsrv.local.com [100.130.130.129] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 100.130.130.129: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 100.130.130.129: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128
Reply from 100.130.130.129: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128

Reply from 100.130.130.129: bytes=32 time<10ms TTL=128

Then you have entered the mail server name correctly.

If the ping utility cannot be found, you have not installed TCP/IP.
