Configuring Fax server options

Document Conversion configuration

FAXmaker can automatically convert Office, rtf, txt, gif, jpg, HTML and PDF attachments at server level. FAXmaker includes a built in conversion engine for PDF, HTML, PNG, GIF, JPG, RTF, TXT documents.

To use server-based document conversion you must have Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP installed on the FAX Server computer!

To set-up document conversion of office documents
  1. Ensure that Microsoft Office was installed using the same account that is being used for the FAXmaker fax server services. If this is not the case, re-install Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP using the account used for FAXmaker.
  2. Make sure you have made a full installation of Microsoft Office.
  3. Make sure that the account used for installing FAXmaker and Microsoft Office has administrator rights.
  4. After installing Microsoft Office, run Word and/or Excel to get rid of any messages displayed the first time the programs are run.
  5. Make sure that the FAXmaker printer driver is set as the default printer for the machine.
  6. Re-start the fax server machine to ensure that changes will take effect.

Note: FAXmaker and Office are to be installed using the same user account. This user account must have administrative rights. This will ensure that the FAXmaker printer driver, FAXmaker Fax Server and Microsoft Office will be running in the same user account while running as a service.

Document conversion options

Document Conversion options

To configure document conversion, right-click on the Document conversion node and select properties. You can configure the following options:

Ignore extensions: Enter the extensions that you wish FAXmaker to ignore e.g., p7s, vcf, etc.

Note: FAXmaker will not ignore the standard FAXmaker extensions: fax, txt, rtf and fmk.

'Print to' shortcut set-up: It is possible to use some additional formats apart from the ones described above. However, to do this you must set up a 'print to' shortcut for each format you wish to convert. To do this, enter the extension of the format (e.g. 'doc' for Word) and enter the Application Command that is able to print the format. In most cases this is 'Print'. Then click Add.

Please note that formats other then the ones mentioned above (e.g. DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF, JPG, GIF, HTML) are not supported by GFI, i.e. you can try them out but we can not offer you support.
