Generating reports
Reports are not generated immediately upon creation or when you launch GFI LANguard S.E.L.M. Reporter. Instead you must manually trigger the running of the reports. This feature is important since report generation may take a few minutes to finish, and may drain CPU power, especially with a large number of events.
To generate a report:
- Click once on the report item in the left pane. A message appears in the right pane giving you instructions how to generate the report.
- Right-click on the report item in the left pane.
- Select 'Generate' to generate the report.
Note: If the report item is not selected at least once before generating the report (e.g. by skipping step 1), the report is not generated.
If your Events table is password-protected, you may need to type in login credentials for accessing your database. If you fail to do this the report will not be generated.
Navigating through reports
At the top of the report a toolbar allows you to perform the following operations:
- Navigate backwards and forward through the report pages.
- Enter the Printer Setup dialog box (this is required before printing the report).
- Print the report.
- Export the report to a common file-formats, such as Microsoft® Word or Microsoft® Excel.
- Set different zoom levels for the display.
- Look up a string in the report.
The toolbar also displays:
- The current page and the total number of pages. The total number of pages is only calculated as you navigate through the report. A plus sign (+) near the total indicates the possibility of more pages.
- The total number of events read by the report.
- The progress of the report while it is being generated.
Other operations
This section lists down those features which you will be using but which have not been covered in previous sections:
- Direct renaming of report descriptions. This can be performed through the report context-menu, and, if not already selected, automatically checks 'Override automatic naming of this report' for this report.
- Deleting of reports. This can also be performed through the report context-menu. Once deleted a report is not recoverable and must be created again. Note that report types cannot be deleted.
