Step 8: Running Mail essentials set-up
- On the newly configured mail relay machine, Log-on as administrator and run Mail essentials set-up by double-clicking the file mes2000.exe. Mail essentials will also prompt you to check for a later Mail essentials version. Always use the latest version!
- Select the language in which you want Mail essentials to appear and click OK. A welcome dialog will appear. Close other Windows programs and click Next. Confirm the License agreement, click Next. Now enter your Name, company, and serial number. If you are evaluating the product, leave the default serial number as
Evaluation. Click Next.
- Select which mail server you wish to use. If your mail server is not listed, select 'Other SMTP/POP3 server'
- Set-up will now ask you to specify your IP and your local domain.
- Set-up will now ask you to specify the administrator email address. Enter the e-mail address of the Administrator.
- Set-up will now ask you where you want Mail essentials to be installed. Mail essentials will need approximately 30 MB of free hard disk space. In addition to this, you must reserve approximately 200 MB for temporary files. The set-up program will now copy all program files to the selected destination, and finish the installation by creating a GFI Mail essentials program group. Click Finish to finish setup.
If you have IIS services running, Mail essentials will need to stop these services during installation to install certain files. After it has done that, it will offer to restart these services.
- If you have Exchange 5.5 or 2000: Mail essentials set-up will run the User synchronization wizard. Go to the paragraph 'The user synchronization wizard' to read more about this.
