To send out mail via a smart host if using Windows 2000

To set-up a smart host:

The smart host must be configured from the Windows 2000 SMTP service set-up.

Configuring a smart host in Windows 2000

  1. Go to the Internet information services set-up (Programs > Administrative tools > Internet services manager)
  2. Now go to the Default SMTP server branch. Right click on the branch and bring up the properties dialog.

3. Now go to the Delivery tab and click on the Advanced button.

4. In the 'Advanced delivery' dialog, enter your ISP's mail server name in the 'Smart host' edit box.

Now all outbound mail will be relayed to your ISP's mail server who will in turn send it out to the recipients.
