Overview
Occasionally faxes sent, usually via email as the sending method, which have html as the body text or an html attachment will fail to be converted and the fax will be sent without the attachment or body text. This article will detail the resolution for this issue.
Information
FaxMaker's html conversion engines (the original print_html.exe, print_html2.exe and now the newly created print_html.exe) are used for converting and rendering html information on cover pages and attachments. On WIndows Server 2008 R2 and below, the original print_html.exe was used and this type of conversion worked properly. With the changes in service account permissions as well as other changes in Windows Server 2012 and above, the original print_html.exe no longer would convert documents and print_html2.exe was introduced to resolve this. With new .NET versions and more changes in newer Windows operating systems, html conversion have proven not to be completely reliable and a new print_html.exe has now been created.
This fix will also be included in the next build release, FaxMaker 20.3 which is tentatively scheduled for June of 2020.
Procedure
- Download and unblock the print_html.exe folder.
- Stop all GFI FaxMaker services from the services.msc console.
- Extract the folder and copy the files to the FaxMaker Installation directory,
C:\Program Files\FaxMaker, you can move the original print_html.exe to another location or copy over it as in the screenshot below.
- Navigate to
C:\Program Files\FaxMaker\doccvt.ini - Open the doccvt.ini with notepad
- Change htm=print_html2.exe to htm=print_html.exe
- Change html=print_html2.exe to htm=print_html.exe
- Save the file and exit
- Restart the GFI FaxMaker services that were stopped in step 2 and test.
Confirmation
Once the steps above are complete the conversion process will use the new print_html.exe and conversion will complete and the fax will be sent in its entirety.
