AnswerComputer accounts (ComputerName$) are counted towards the license by GFI WebMonitor when no other connection by an authenticated user is made from the same machine:
- If a machine with no logged on user makes a connection using the machine$ account, machine$ will take one license
- If later a user logs on to the same machine and browses to the internet, the user account will take a license, but machine$ will no longer be counted
Connections by ComputerName$ accounts can be made by applications or services using the LocalSystem account and connecting to the internet to check for and download product updates, e.g. Windows Updates.
Note: See the following article for ways to exclude these accounts from counting towards GFI WebMonitor's license: http://www.gfi.com/support/products/gfi-webmonitor/Can-I-exclude-computer-accounts-and-other-IPs-or-users-from-being-counted-against-GFI-WebMonitor-s-license
