This article provides a list of things to check when you are loading the GFI Archiver web page, and the connection to Microsoft Active Directory fails.
When trying to load the GFI Archiver web page, it fails with the following error:
Failed to authenticate: AuthenticationFailed
The debug log
"info ","AdaEngineADDSHost plugin 2","GetGCRoot: using GC"
"info ","AdaEngineADDSHost plugin 2","GetGCRoot. Error: Enumerator is positioned before the first item or after the last item."
"error ","AdaEngineADDSHost plugin 2","ERROR: ResolveUser: failed while searching for the user[cannot retrieve GC root]"
This issue occurs because GFI Archiver cannot connect to Microsoft Active Directory.
Make sure that the connection to Microsoft Active Directory is healthy. Below is a list of items to check for:
- Verify that the DNS servers are configured correctly within Windows.
- Check that the data in the DNS is valid, and run the basic Microsoft Active Directory health checks with these tools (suggestion):
- If a domain controller was recently decommissioned, make sure that no stale records are still present for the decommissioned domain controller (in the DNS and Microsoft Active Directory)
- Make sure that the server is correctly joined to the Microsoft Active Directory domain. Check the Windows event logs for hints, as the trust relationship between the server and the domain might be broken.
