Through a GFI Archiver IMAP account, a user is granted read-only access to an archive mailbox within GFI Archiver. This appears in Microsoft Outlook 2013 as an additional mailbox in the Navigation Bar, and users are allowed to create folders and move emails from one folder to another even though Microsoft Outlook 2013 detects that this mailbox is read-only.
Microsoft Outlook 2013 tags moved items with a 'This Computer Only' label. This means that the moves or changes performed are not replicated on the GFI Archiver server. All changes tagged as 'This Computer Only' reside locally on the computer where Microsoft Outlook 2013 is installed.
When using a GFI Archiver IMAP account with Microsoft Outlook 2013, keep in mind that any changes you make are not replicated on the GFI Archiver server. If you delete the Microsoft Outlook profile, all changes will be lost.
You can also choose to use the GFI Archiver Outlook Connector, a tool that works seamlessly in Microsoft Outlook 2013 with similar functionality to that provided by IMAP access.
- With GFI MailArchiver 2014 or newer it will also be possible to delete emails on the server using the IMAP connection, if the administrator enables the deletion feature and the user has the required permissions granted via Configuration > Roles and Permissions. Deletion is not enabled by default.
