How to Enable DNS on the Exinda

Summary

Enabling DNS allows for many benefits, such as being able to resolve domains instead of requiring IP addresses to be needed, and it also allows some features of the Exinda like the SMTP functionality and resolving conversation IPs to URLs

Overview

DNS in the Exinda is an important requirement to ensure that a lot of the system functionality works at optimal condition. The following relies heavily on having a set up DNS system configured in and contactable by the Exinda:
  • SMTP
  • Resolving Conversation IPs to Domain Names
  • NSLookup from the Exinda
  • Contacting the Exinda License Server to check your licensing
  • Contacting the Exinda Servers for an updated Anonymous Proxy list
  • Contacting the Exinda Servers to look for new firmware updates
Enabling DNS is an easy matter, and can be done through Configuration > System > Network, under the "DNS" tab. It allows you to put in up to 3 IPs for primary, secondary and tertiary DNS servers.

Using a combination of internal DNS servers as well as public DNS servers in case of internal failure (such as Google's 8.8.8.8) is known as good practice.
