Downloading Large Files and High CPU Usage on Router While Acceleration Is Enabled

Overview

This article provides the details regarding the relation between download file size and CPU usage when acceleration is enabled.

Information

When acceleration is enabled, and the Exinda is providing data at LAN speeds, there is a high-speed transfer of packets in the network.

We have seen that depending on the downloaded file size, and the download speed when accelerating, the packet rate hitting the network may vary. For instance, if a user has a 10 GB file and a 100 MB file, downloading the 10 GB file might create a high packet rate in the network as compared to the 100 MB file.

This high rate of packet flow may result in a high CPU usage on other network devices if they are not equipped to handle this high rate.

Unfortunately, there is nothing on the Exinda that can be done to control this packet rate.
