How to find a message ID

Answer

Your message ID can be found in the MailEssentials Dashboard under the Message ID column.
It can also be found by opening the headers of an email using the following steps:
  1. Open a message
  2. On the View menu, click Options
Note: If you do not see the Options command, make sure you click View on the toolbar in an open message window. The View menu on the standard Outlook toolbar does not have the Options command.

  2. On the Tools menu, click Options
  3. Header information appears under Delivery options in the Internet headers box
  4. The message ID usually starts with Message ID <950124.162336@example.com>
 OR:
  1. Open a message
  2. On the Message tab, in the Options group, click the Dialog Box Laucher Icon image
  3. In the Message Options dialog box, the headers appear in the Internet Headers box
  4. The message ID usually starts with Message ID <950124.162336@example.com>
A Message-ID is a unique identifier for a digital message, most commonly a globally unique identifier used in email and Usenet newsgroups.

Message-IDs are required to have a specific format which is a subset of an email address (though Microsoft Outlook is known to generate invalid IDs with three parts) and to be globally unique. That is, no two different messages must ever have the same Message-ID. A common technique used by many message systems is to use a time and date stamp along with the local host's domain name, e.g., 950124.162336@example.com
