Microsoft OWA Stops Working After Installing GFI Archiver

Overview

After installing GFI Archiver on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-bit server on which Microsoft Exchange 2007 is also installed, Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) stops working. This article provides a resolution to this kind of issue.

 

Information

Environment

  • GFI Archiver
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-bit

Root Cause

In this particular environment, after installing .NET Framework 4, Internet Information Services (IIS) 6 switches the Microsoft Outlook Web Access to the latest version of .NET Framework installed, which causes the failure of Microsoft OWA

 

Process

  1. Open IIS Manager. Refer to Opening IIS Manager for instructions on how to open the IIS Manager
  2. Navigate to ServerName > Websites.
  3. Right-click on the Exchange Virtual Directory and select Properties.
  4. Click on the ASP.NET tab.
  5. Under ASP.NET Version, select 2.0.50727.
  6. Click Apply and then OK.
  7. Right-click on the Archiver Application and select Properties
  8. Click on the ASP.NET tab.
  9. Under ASP.NET Version, select 4.0.30319.
  10. Click Apply and OK

 

Confirmation

Once the above process is completed, Microsoft OWA works as expected.
