Overview

This article provides an alternate means of scanning using Microsoft specific tools to compare results with LanGuard scans.

Process

GFI LanGuard scans computers for Security Updates and Vulnerabilities (i.e., patches that have bulletin IDs in the form of MSyy-nnn. Example: MS14-018) using Microsoft's offline catalog file. Therefore, it should match the results obtained by Microsoft's Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) tool. 

To use the tool, follow these steps:

1. Download the MBSA tool.

2. Run the installer to install the tool on the local machine.

3. Run the tool from the Start menu.

4. Select the options as shown in the following image and click Start Scan:
