PROBLEM

When a Windows XP machine is scanned, scan results have missing information and patches cannot be deployed to the same machine.

ENVIRONMENT

• GFI LanGuard
• Microsoft Windows XP
   

SOLUTION

Disable simple file sharing on the target machines:

1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Go to Tools > Folder Options... > View tab
3. Uncheck 'Use simple file sharing'
4. Click on 'Apply'

CAUSE

Windows XP has a feature called Simple File Sharing, which is enabled by default on new installations. For successful scanning and patch deployment, Simple File Sharing needs to be disabled.
