Moving GFI EndPointSecurity to a New Server

Overview

This article provides the steps to move GFI EndPointSecurity to a new server.

Process

Note: Before you move the configuration from one installation to the other, it is recommended that you check if you are running the same version and build for GFI EndPointSecurity. This can be done by going to GFI EndPointSecurity > General > Version Information.

If it is necessary to move GFI EndPointSecurity to a new server and you wish to retain your configuration settings, proceed as follows:

Backing up your current configuration

  1. Open the GFI EndPointSecurity configuration on the current server.
  2. Choose File > Import and Export Configurations.
  3. From the Import and Export Configurations Wizard, click on Export the desired configurations to a file and select Next.
  4. Enter a name and destination where you want to save your backup configuration file and click on the Next button.
  5. Select the options you wish to export to the new GFI EndPointSecurity Server. If you want to copy the entire configuration, click on the Select All button then click on the Next button to proceed.
  6. The configuration is now exported.
  7. Stop the GFI EndPointSecurity Service on the current server.

Importing the backup configuration on the new GFI EndPointSecurity Server

  1. Install GFI EndPointSecurity on the new machine.
  2. Copy the backup configuration file created in the previous procedure onto the new GFI EndPointSecurity server.
  3. Open the GFI EndPointSecurity Configuration on the new machine.
  4. Choose File > Import and Export Configurations.
  5. From the Import and Export Configurations Wizard, click on Import the desired configuration from a file and click Next.
  6. Locate the backup configuration file and click Next.
  7. Select the options you wish to import on the new GFI EndPointSecurity Server. If you want to copy the entire configuration, click on the Select All button then click on the Next button to proceed.
    Note: You might encounter a warning message saying that a policy with the same name already exists. You can safely confirm the replacement by clicking on the Yes button.
  8. The GFI EndPointSecurity configuration has now been imported.
