EndPointSecurity Service Stops When the Console Is Opened

Overview

Opening the UI (user interface) causes the GFI EndPointSecurity service to stop running after a few seconds.

Environment

EndPointSecurity 2012 build 20120104

Process

This error occurred when the user performs the following steps:

1. Close the UI.
2. Start the GFI EndPointSecurity service.
3. Start the UI.
   
   After a few seconds, the service will be stopped. The service can be restarted manually and it works fine until you close and open the UI again.

To fix this issue, follow the steps given below:

• Disable the auto updates as a failing update causes the service to stop.
• This issue has been fixed in the patch, also attached to this article.
  
  Note: After applying the patch, you may notice that the service is now restarted when opening the UI instead of stopped. This is normal behavior when opening the EndPointSecurity console.
