Fax Modem and Custom Modem Properties

Overview

GFI FaxMaker can send and receive faxes using a wide range of Fax Modems connected to the server’s communications ports.

The steps to send faxes using a Fax Modem, and how to configure a Custom Modem, are described in this article.

Process

Fax Modem Properties

  1. In the Lines/Devices list, add the modem as a GFI Fax Modem Driver.
  2. In the device properties dialog, select the Modem type by model name and number, or select a Generic class that best matches the device’s properties.
  3. Click Advanced modem options… and select:
    Option Description
    New modem (current modem as template)… Adds a new modem to modems lists. Initial properties are based on the selected modem type. See Custom modem properties below.

    Edit modem…

    Loads the modem properties. See Custom modem properties below.
    Delete modem Removes selected modem from list.
    Reset all modem drivers to default Resets all modems properties to default.
  4. Configure the other device/line options and click OK.

Custom Modem Properties

Below is a screenshot of the custom modem properties dialog box:

Customize the following options based on the fax modem specifications:

Option Description
Modem type Key in a user-friendly name for the modem type, such as the device brand, name or model number.
  • Flow control
  • Fax class
  • Voice chipset
  • DLE codes method
  • Thread priority
  • Data initialization string
  • Fax initialization string
  • Voice initialization string
  • Pre-command delay
  • Character delay
Provide settings based on device specifications.
