Overview
The users may experience internet traffic slowness. This article summarizes the reasons for users experiencing slow internet speeds and provides resolution for this issue.
Root Cause
The following are some of the reasons for this issue:
- The Circuit/Virtual Circuit/Policy might not have been configured properly, with the correct throughput.
- If the configuration has Dynamic Virtual Circuit (DVC's), per user throughput allocation might be less.
- The bridges passing traffic might not be able to negotiate properly with the adjacent devices.
- Turn off the optimizer and check if the issue persists, If that's the case then probably it's not an Exinda issue.
- If you are using the edge-cache feature of the Exinda, disable the edge-cache policy and do your test. If the issue is related to edge-cache. clear edge-cache using the KB article Exinda Cache Storages.
Resolution
- Make sure the throughput configuration on the Circuit/Virtual Circuit/Policy and Dynamic Virtual Circuit level is correct.
- If you have multiple VC's, then it is a good practice to configure guaranteed throughput on the VC in order to control then better.
- If you have multiple VC's, then it is a good practice to configure guaranteed throughput on the VC in order to control then better.
- Circuit bandwidth should match the link size on the bridges added in that circuit.
- Please note all throughput configuration requires a "kbps" value. So, if the link is a 100 Mbps link, the VC's/policies/circuits should be configured for 102400 kbps in pre-version 7 firmware and 100000 kbps in version 7 and above firmware of the Exinda.
- In the case of Dynamic Virtual Circuits, configure an adequate amount of throughput for users based on the number of users, max and min bandwidths.
- Make sure the Virtual Circuits and policies are configured for the correct applications and/or network and VLAN objects they are supposed to be monitoring/controlling/optimizing.
- Speed and duplex settings should match across all the devices. Change it to auto to see how it negotiates to.
- Check physical cabling as well. LAN side of the network should go to the LAN port of the Exinda. WAN side of the network should go to the WAN side of the Exinda.
