How Does Exinda Mobile Get User and Client Names?
Summary
Exinda Mobile is a service that allows for mobile users to achieve acceleration and other benefits while outside of the parent organization. In doing so, it can identify the users and computers that are connected to the system.
Overview
When Exinda Mobile has a user connect to the Mobile Server, it shows the user and the computer they are using (in the form of Hostname\Username), as well as the IP address they are connected on in the Clint Report window. While the IP address is a simple enough piece of information to get, the computer host name and the username of the logged on user are a little more difficult to grab.
Resolution
The Exinda Mobile Client has an executable called the 'ReptorClientLogon' included with it. Whenever a user logs in, this executable is run, and it obtains the host name and the user name from the environment variables of 'COMPTUERNAME' and 'USERNAME'. These variables are configured on the Virtual Appliance, and also placed in the 'application.config' file located in the root directory of the install. This information is how the data appears in the Client Report list in Exinda Mobile.
