End-of-Life (EOL) for GFI Products

Overview

GFI stops support and maintenance of previous versions of software products 12 months after the latest major release. It is highly recommended to upgrade your GFI product to the latest version, especially if your deployed version is no longer supported or maintained. Keeping your product updated ensures you have all of the latest fixes and features.

Hardware products, such as Kerio Control boxes and Exinda boxes, also reach EOL. The dates for these are announced on a per-product basis. Similarly to software, keeping your hardware product up-to-date ensures you have all of the latest features and performance enhancements.

<supportagent>

It is very important to note the following aspects when dealing with NGxxx and Exinda EOL devices:

  1. If the customer has a valid license, we help the customer, disregarding the EOL policy
  2. NGxxx machines failing to boot after an upgrade are almost always software issues
  3. If the issue seems to be related to the hardware itself, we check the warranty;
    1. If the device is still in warranty (not likely), we initiate the RMA process, so that the BU can approve of this
    2. If the device is NOT in warranty anymore, we let the customer know of the warranty status and offer the usual options: reach out to the GFI BU (https://customercare.gfi.com/conversation/new) for a new device OR they can service it themselves (replace the SSD, RAM etc for Kerio Control)
  4. NEVER disregard a customer support request only because their hardware device is EOL.

This article covers the following topics:

Understanding End-of-Life (EOL)

Products reach EOL for a number of reasons including varying market demands, technological innovations driving product changes, product maturity and so on. This is an established part of a product’s life cycle. At GFI Software, we recognise the importance of clearly defining and stating each milestone of our products’ EOL cycles so our customers can plan accordingly.

This section sets out important definitions and explanations to help understand GFI Software’s "End-of" policies and how software maintenance and technical support work in each case. These policies can apply to On-Premise software products or SaaS products (sometimes referred to as “cloud” products). The tables in the sections following this one, list key EOL dates and related information.

Major Release

This is a release which may deliver significant new features, enhancements, and performance improvements, as well as bug corrections and security updates. Major releases are usually denoted by a change in the product’s major number (the number to the left of the decimal place), for example, GFI Archiver 14.0 to GFI Archiver 15.0. Alternatively, there may be a change to the product’s name, for example, GFI MailEssentials 2014 to GFI MailEssentials 2015.

End-of-Sale (EOS)

This is the last date that a product can be ordered for purchase. For On-Premise products this is usually when the next major release of the product becomes commercially available. SaaS products are released to all customers within a region at the same time, with no ability to use earlier versions thereafter. The release of on-premise components for SaaS products (e.g. an agent) may or may not coincide with this, but only the most recently released version will remain available.

End-of-Life (EOL)

The date following which an On-Premise product release or an on-premise component of a SaaS product, is no longer manufactured, improved, repaired, maintained, or supported. This is usually 12 months following a major release or an independent, pre-announced period. This is not applicable to SaaS products, where each new release immediately replaces the previous one.

End-of-Engineering (EOE)

The date from which a product will no longer receive major or minor releases, defect logging or defect fixes. Latest versions of software and fixes remain available for download. Customers can continue to use EOE products unencumbered and add/subtract user licenses as necessary. Customer Support will continue to respond to issues and use reasonable efforts to assist customers. However, no new, tested corrections will be generated.

End-of-Product-Life (EOPL)

The date from which an entire On-Premise product is discontinued and will no longer be manufactured, improved, repaired, maintained or supported. For SaaS products, the online service will no longer be available or accessible. All commercially reasonable efforts are made to provide at least 12 months notification of EOPL. From the date of notification until the EOPL, best-efforts Customer Support is provided, along with critical bug fixes, work-arounds and/or patches wherever possible.

Important Notes

Software Maintenance Agreements are all-inclusive with GFI Software. This means that technical support is provided for the product line; support is not tied to a specific product version. Nevertheless, when resolving a reported problem, customers may be required to upgrade to the latest version if deemed necessary. In the case of hardware, support will be limited or may be rejected in case an issue is believed or confirmed to be linked to an EOL device.

In cases of significant changes to a product’s technical architecture, GFI reserves the right to end-of-life that product within 90 days.

* As of July 1, 2023, GFI Software has discontinued all hardware sales

Exinda Hardware

Exinda will repair or replace all defective Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) for three years from the End of Sale (EOS) date only for FRUs that are under a current paid service agreement. Exinda reserves the right to substitute functionally equivalent products and peripherals.

An EOS hardware will be considered to have reached its End of Life (EOL) after three years from the EOS date or from the date provided in the hardware's EOS notice, whichever is later.

When an EOS hardware reaches EOL, Exinda will no longer provide hardware or software support. Support beyond the EOL date stated in the EOS notice is at the sole discretion of Exinda.

End-of-Life Policy for Software

For customers who are covered by a current service agreement, software support is compromised for the following areas:

Unspecified Feature/Maintenance Releases

  • A Feature Release is an update (i.e., x.0) containing new features/enhancements that are created to be used on Exinda equipment. Meanwhile, a Maintenance Release is an update (i.e., x.0.1) where the maintenance requirements for a feature release are established.

  • For discontinued EOS hardware, Exinda will test and qualify any new software releases (feature/maintenance releases) only if the customer sends a request in writing within two years after the hardware's EOS date. Exinda makes no claims or promises (expressed or implied) that EOS hardware will support feature releases that are generally available after a hardware platform's EOS date without a prior written consent between Exinda and the customer.

Unspecified Patch/Fix Releases

  • A Patch Release consists of software patches that help the Exinda software to operate correctly with the existing equipment. Exinda also develops and provides software patches to EOS hardware that are covered by a valid service agreement for three years. Exinda will patch the last valid maintenance release for the EOS hardware and may also request the customer to upgrade to a later supported release. These circumstances should be covered by a prior mutual agreement between Exinda and the customer. However, support for EOS/EOL hardware/software beyond the EOL date stated in the EOS notice is at the sole discretion of Exinda.

End-of-Life and Upgrades

Exinda's trade-up program helps customers to upgrade to the latest Exinda solutions. Customers can take advantage of Exinda's new features that help make network management more effortless. Upgrading also allows customers to continue with leveraging Exinda's Support Center for 24/7 support and software maintenance.
