Overview
This article provides information about the antivirus and content filters integrated into the Kerio Connect system.
Information
Kerio Antivirus
Kerio Connect includes Kerio Antivirus, integrated protection against malicious emails with viruses, which may infect your computer and cause harm to your files or to your computer system. Kerio Antivirus has straightforward options:
Below are some facts about Kerio Antivirus:
-
Kerio Antivirus is an optional component and is not available for unregistered trial versions.
-
Kerio Connect 9.2.1 and earlier user Sophos Engine but later versions use BitDefender Engine.
-
Kerio Antivirus connects to bdupdate.kerio.com and bdupdate-cdn.kerio.com via HTTPS to download updates.
-
Kerio Antivirus can be repaired or reset by deleting the AV folders and running the Kerio Connect installer (see the manual for more information).
-
If the Antivirus Engine is not working (i.e., corrupt updates), it can cause the mail flow to halt.
Content Filters
Attachment Filters
Many viruses are hidden as email message attachments. As part of its antivirus control, Kerio Connect can filter email attachments according to your settings. If Kerio Connect detects a problematic attachment, it removes the attachment and delivers the message without it.
Message Filters
Message Filters are server-side filters, in contrast with client-side filter rules that each user can set in their webmail. Administrators can apply message filters directly on the Kerio Connect server. The rules can be created for incoming and outgoing emails.
The message filters can be used for auto-reply, route emails, modify headers, send notifications, add recipients, and as a security feature, it can also reject messages.
On the client-side, each user can also create Filter rules for incoming emails. After the email is checked by Kerio Connect and sent to the recipients, the user can still reject any email or perform other actions based on the rules.
