Troubleshooting Tips for Connectivity Issues

Overview

With a variety of remotely connected desktops, mobile devices, applications, and protocols, there is always a chance to encounter connectivity issues.

Connectivity-related issues are a common problem that requires troubleshooting of the messaging system.

This article explains how the Debug log is used to diagnose and troubleshoot the issues related to connectivity.

Information

  1. In Kerio Connect, right-click on the Debug log area and click on Messages.
  2. Select the appropriate message type (service to be logged).

    • The table below displays some of the Service Types and the description of when to use them:

      Service Type

      When to Use

      SMTP

When problems in the communication between the SMTP server and a client arise, use the SMTP Server and SMTP Client options.

      POP3

When problems with the POP3 server arise, enable the POP3 Server option.

      IMAP

When problems with the IMAP server arise, enabling of the IMAP Server logging might be helpful.

      NNTP

When problems with the NNTP server arise, enable the NNTP Server option.

      LDAP

When problems with the LDAP server arise, enable the LDAP Server option.

      HTTP
      • The HTTP Server option enables the logging of HTTP traffic on the server's side.
      • The WebDAV Server Request option enables the logging of queries sent from a WebDAV server. You can use it for Microsoft Entourage or Apple Mail, where problems with Exchange accounts arise.
      • The PHP Engine Messages option helps to solve problems with the Kerio Connect Client interface.
      Instant Messaging

When problems with the IM server arise, enable the Instant Messaging Server option.

  • The HTTP Server modules display further details regarding the specific types of HTTP interfaces that are used by most messaging applications.
  • The Debug log is useful, especially for developers. If there are any issues with the software, this log can help the technical support team to find the solution.

Enabling Activities for Other Types of Issues in the Debug Log

The Debug log can also be used for other types of issues.

For example:

  • If you encounter authentication issues, you can enable user authentication.
  • If you are experiencing domain name resolution issues, you can enable DNS resolver.
These types of log events display expansive details of the activities in real-time. Once you have captured the necessary debugging data, make sure you disable all the Debug log events to prevent unnecessary use of resources.
