PROBLEM

Spam Definitions are not updating correctly due to firewall restrictions.

ENVIRONMENT

  • GFI MailEssentials
  • All Supported Environments

SOLUTION

All MailEssentials updates are downloaded over HTTP (Port 80). 
 
The connections are made to the following addresses:  
  • 'http://update.gfi.com' 
  • 'http://cdnupdate.gfi.com'
  • 'http://update.gfisoftware.com' 
  • 'http://*.mailshell.net'
  • Mailshell IP addresses 

NOTES: 
  • All auto-update functionality (such as SpamRazer, Bayesian, etc) in GFI MailEssentials runs over HTTP which can pass through the proxy server configured in the GFI MailEssentials configuration. You must ensure that you configure your firewall to allow connections from the GFI MailEssentials server to connect to your proxy server.
  • Antiphishing and Bayesian updates are downloaded from 'http://update.gfi.com' or 'http://update.gfisoftware.com' depending on your MailEssentials configuration. 
  • Spamrazer updates are downloaded by directly connecting to the IP address of one of the update server and not a hostname - therefore Port 80 outbound must be opened 
  • Below is a full list of servers (IP addresses and hostnames) to which sn92.mailshell.net may redirect:

Spam Definitions are not updating correctly due to firewall blocking ports.
