Overview

The admin gets an email notification with the following error when spam has been allowed through:

Plugin licsvc reports an exception. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component

Environment

• GFI MailEssentials
• All supported environments

Root Cause

The cdosys.dll has become unregistered.

This DLL is responsible for interacting with .mdb files, where the license key is stored.

Resolution

1. Open the command prompt (Start > Run > Type cmd and press Enter).
2. Run the command regsvr32 cdosys.dll to re-register the COM object cdosys.dll.
