Error: 'Server error in \MailEssentials application' when trying to add an item to the Whitelist

PROBLEM

When trying to add a user to the Whitelist and save it, you get this error:
 
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

SOLUTION

Any time that a port connection is "forcibly closed" (as opposed to "actively refused"), there is either a port conflict or antimalware or firewall software shutting down the connection. To verify what is running on the port (buagent.exe by EVault software is a common conflict), run this command in a command prompt:
  • netstat -abn > ports.txt
You can then open the ports.txt file to find out what is listening on port 8021.

CAUSE

A port conflict or firewall / anti malware software is shutting down the necessary connection.
