PROBLEM

After an upgrade of GFI FaxMaker, the SMS settings are not configurable anymore.

ENVIRONMENT

• GFI FaxMaker 2013 or higher
• Windows Server 2008 or higher

SOLUTION

Disable the User Access Control (UAC) on the FaxMaker server, reboot the server and then perform a re-installation of the product.

To disable User Account Control (UAC):

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (x86, x64)

1. Select Start > Control Panel
2. Select User Accounts > Turn User Account Control on or off
3. Deselect Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK
4. Reboot the machine for changes to take effect

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2

1. Select Start > Control Panel
2. Select User Accounts > Change User Account Control settings
3. Move the slider bar down to the Never notify selection and click OK
4. Reboot the machine for changes to take effect

Microsoft Windows Server 2012

1. Select Start > Control Panel 
2. Click System Security
3. Under Action Center, choose Change User Account Control settings
4. Move the slider bar down to the Never notify selection and click OK
5. Reboot the machine for changes to take effect

CAUSE

If User Access Control is enabled, it may interfere the installation process of GFI FaxMaker such as the registration of system components successfully.
