Overview
GFI FaxMaker printer is not present in the printers' list of the Control Panel, or the GFI FaxMaker printer fails to install, or the GFI FaxMaker printer has become corrupted. This article provides the steps to resolve all these issues.

Root Cause
Some common causes of the defined problem are:
- UAC was not disabled before installing (or re-installing) the GFI FaxMaker printer.
- Remote Desktop Connection is used, but the Local Resources > Printers is not disabled.
- The computer is joined to an Active Directory Domain, but a 'Domain Administrator' account was not used for installing the printer.
- Accidental removal of the FaxMaker printer from the printers' list.
- Application of Microsoft Updates which could affect security settings in the environment.
- The recent upgrade of GFI FaxMaker with a failed attempt to update the FaxMaker printer.
Process
Install or recreate the GFI FaxMaker printer by following the below procedures:
- Navigate to the GFI FaxMaker installation directory. The default directory path is:
..\Program Files\GFI\FaxMaker
Note: If installed on a 64-bit Operating System, the default directory path is:..\Program Files (x86)\GFI\FaxMaker
. - Run as administrator on the Windows (7, 8, or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2012) Command script
fmprinter_uninstall.cmd
. - Stop the Print Spooler Service, wait 10 seconds.
- Re-start the Print Spooler Service from the Services Management Console by navigating to Start > Run. Type
services.msc
and press Enter. - Navigate to the GFI FaxMaker installation directory. Run as administrator on the Windows (7, 8, or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or 2012) Command script
fmprinter_install.cmd
. - Set the GFI FaxMakerprinter as the default printer for the GFI FaxMaker Fax Server service account.
Additional Steps
Note: Always ensure that the GFI FaxMaker printer is set as the default printer for the account running the GFI FaxMaker Fax Server services. To locate the service account:
- Navigate to Start > Run > type
services.msc
and press Enter. - Right-click the GFI FaxMaker Fax Server service and go to Properties.
- Review the Log On tab credentials.
