High CPU utilization on router where there is an Exinda cluster

Overview

Is a user is seeing high CPU utilization on their router, the first thing they should check is - what is the traffic type that is causing load on the router CPU.
If determined it is the Exinda, verify which mac-address the traffic is from.
Once done investigate into that interface on the Exinda to see if the broadcasts are legit or illegit.

Cause

Generally this is seen when a cluster interfaces is not connected directly, but the traffic is routed through the router.
Cluster interfaces are designed to talk to each other using UDP broadcasts. Hence, this traffic is legitimate traffic.

Resolution

A cluster interface should be directly connected or should be bridged through a switch. This will prohibit routing traffic over the network and keep all broadcasts within the cluster.
