How to set a retention period for items quarantined by Malware and Content Filtering in GFI MailEssentials

Answer

In order to automatically purge the Malware and Content Filtering quarantined items, a Search folder must be created and set to automatically purge items over a set date. To do so:

GFI MailEssentials 2012-2014R2
  1. Open to the MailEssentials Configuration Console
  2. Locate the Quarantine drop down
  3. Select the Search Folders option
  4. Set the Search for option to Malware and Content Only
  5. Create a search folder name
  6. Navigate to the Auto-Purging section
  7. Select the check box to Enable Auto-Purging
  8. Set Automatically purge items older than: to the amount of days you would like to purge 
  9. Click Save Folder
GFI MailEssentials 2015 and Later
  1. Open to the MailEssentials Configuration Console
  2. Expand the Quarantine Dropdown
  3. Navigate and expand the Quarantine Options
  4. Select the Malware Options
  5. Under the Retention Period  enable and set the the days you would like to retain the items
  6. Click Apply to save the changes
