Overview

This article provides a resolution when Directory Harvesting Actions are grayed out in the GFI MailEssentials configuration.

Environment

• GFI MailEssentials
• All supported environments

Root Cause

Directory Harvesting is running in Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) mode and actions cannot be applied on SMTP level.

Resolution

If you like emails picked up by Directory Harvesting to follow an action set by the filter itself, Directory Harvesting will need to be set to run in full email mode.

1. Open the GFI MailEssentials configuration.
2. Navigate to AntiSpam > Filter Priority > SMTP Transmission Filtering tab.
3. Click Switch next to Directory Harvesting.
4. Select Apply.
5. Navigate to AntiSpam > AntiSpam Filters > Directory Harvesting > Actions tab.
6. Set new action for Directory Harvesting running in full email mode.
7. Select Apply.

The Directory Harvesting action should now be followed.
