How to change which Internet Information Services (IIS) SMTP virtual server GFI MailEssentials binds

Answer

In GFI MailEssentials, the installation will automatically bind to the first IIS SMTP virtual server installed on the machine; however, the administrator can configure GFI MailEssentials to bind to a different IIS SMTP virtual server. This can be done by performing the following procedure:
  1. Open the GFI MailEssentials configuration
  2. Go to General Settings > Settings and click Bindings tab
  3. Select the SMTP Virtual Server to bind GFI MailEssentials to
  4. Click Apply.
  5. GFI MailEssentials will ask to re-start services for the new settings to take effect.

Note

  • GFI MailEssentials supports binding to only one Internet Information Services (IIS) Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) virtual server. In versions prior to GFI MailEssentials 8, the installation would choose the first IIS SMTP virtual server installed on the machine and will bind to it. In these versions you cannot change the binding
  • When upgrading GFI MailEssentials to a newer build or version of the product, GFI MailEssentials will once again bind to the first IIS SMTP virtual server. Therefore, if GFI MailEssentials should use a different IIS SMTP virtual server, the correct IIS SMTP virtual server needs to be selected again after the installation.
