Overview
When performing the installation of GFI Archiver the system attempts to connect to the SQL database back end that will be the storage for email data. During this operation the Database Server field is not populated and is the drop down is empty.
Diagnosis
Administrators performing the install notice they cannot get SQL to connect. When the database drop down is empty and does not auto-populate this is usually an indication of a communication issue or service failure.
Solution
The SQL Server Browser service needs to be started/restarted to resolve the error:
-
Open the Windows Services Manager by typing
services.msc
on the Windows Run dialog ( press Windows key+ R):
-
Locate the SQL Server Browser service.
-
Start the service (if it is not running) or restart the service (if it is currently running):
-
Select Ok.
-
Verify that the SQL Server name is correct.
-
Select Ok on the Database Configuration panel.
Testing
The installation or upgrade should proceed without encountering the error/prompt mentioned above.
