Depending on the options chosen on the page labeled 'Microsoft Exchange Server Connection Configuration' within the Import Export Tool, different protocols are used, as indicated below:
MAPI - Messaging Application Programming Interface
- When using GFI Mail Archiver 2014 or newer with:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 & Login as the current user.
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or 2010 or 2013 & Login as the current user.
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 (MAPI /Outlook) & Use other credentials.
- When using GFI Mail Archiver 2013 with:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or 2007 & Login as the current user.
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 or 2010 & Login as the current user.
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 & Use other credentials.
EWS - Exchange Web Services
- When using GFI Mail Archiver 2014 or newer with:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or 2010 or 2013 & Use other credentials.
- Microsoft Exchange Online (Office 365) & Use other credentials.
- When using GFI Mail Archiver 2013 with:
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 SP1 or 2010 & Use other credentials.

Additional Information
- When using the option "Login as current user" the user who runs the tool itself requires access to the mailboxes from where emails are to be exported.
- If calendar items are to be exported, the MAPI protocol must be used.
