Problem Summary
VSS based online backups fail with references to imapdb.fdb and updatescache.fdb
TT / JIRAID

How to Identify
If backing up MailArchiver utilizing Shadow Copy (VSS) the backup job might fail or show warnings/errors similar to: Selected VSS Component has a missing file, or access to the file is denied GFI MailArchiver VSS Writer \State (GFI MailArchiver State) C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailArchiver\Store\Cache\updatescache.fdb Selected VSS Component has a missing file, or access to the file is denied GFI MailArchiver VSS Writer \State (GFI MailArchiver State) C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailArchiver\IMAP\DB\imapdb.fdb The error/warning will differ depending on the backup software used.
Workaround / Fix Details
The reference to updatescache.fdb can be ignored as it is not being used anymore. Stop the GFI MailArchiver IMAP service, backup C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailArchiver\IMAP\Data\DB\imapdb.fdb manually (note that the path in the "How to Identify" section lacks the \Data\ subfolder as it is advertised to VSS incorrectly). ----- Fixed in MARC 2013 R2
Required Actions
Upgrade to MARC 2013 R2 or newer.
