Answer

Applies to:
  • GFI MailArchiver 2012
  • GFI MailArchiver 2011
  • GFI MailArchiver 6
In order to upgrade a GFI MailArchiver Store to be used by the Mailbox Folder Structure Retrieval, you will need to use the Email Hash Generation Tool which is provided with GFI MailArchiver 6 and later. This tool can be used to update old GFI MailArchiver Archive Stores so that these messages can be matched up with those in the Microsoft Exchange user mailbox by the Mailbox Folder Structure Retrieval process.

To update a GFI MailArchiver Store, perform the following procedure:
  1. Ensure that the database schema of the Store you wish to update has been upgraded
    • NOTE: You can check which build you are currently running on from the GFI MailArchiver Configuration > Version Information node. If you are running on an older version of GFI MailArchiver proceed to note (3) below before continuing this procedure
  2. Run the Email Hash Generation Tool which can be located at the following path <\GFI\MailArchiver\EmailHashGenerator\HashGenerator.exe>
    1. Click the Next button
    2. If you are using a Microsoft SQL database as your Archive Store then perform the following:
      • Click on the Microsoft SQL Server Database option and then click Next
      • From the drop down menu, select the database you wish to update and select Next
      • The Email Hash Generator will now generate the Hash for the emails stored in the SQL Archive Store
    3. If you are using a GFI MailArchiver database and file system as your Archive Store then perform the following:
      1. Click on the GFI MailArchiver database and file system option and click Next
      2. Click on the Browse button, find the path to the database file ( *.fdb) and click Open
      3. Click the Next to proceed with the wizard
      4. The Email Hash Generator will now generate the Hash for the emails contain in the GFI MailArchiver Database Archive Store
Notes
  • This tool will only be effective if the messages are still available in Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Store
  • GFI MailArchiver 3 Archive Stores cannot be updated by the Email Hash Generation Tool
  • The Email Hash Generator is not available anymore from GFI MailArchiver 2013 onwards
