Step 1: Configure of a new journaling mailbox in Google Apps for Business
GFI Archiver can be configured to work with Google Apps as follows:
- Log in to Google Apps for Business and create a new user/mailbox, for example: journal@mycompany.com. This will act as your journaling mailbox.
- Log in to the newly created mailbox and go to Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > IMAP Access
- Click the Enable IMAP checkbox to enable IMAP for this mailbox
- Ensure that Auto-Expunge off – Wait for the client to update the server is enabled
- Click Immediately delete the message forever
- Go to the Google Apps administration configuration page
- Go to Settings and select your domain, for example, mycompany.com
- In the left sidebar, click Email
- Go to Receiving Routing and click Configure
- In the Recipient address field, enter the email address created in step 1, for example: journal@mycompany.com
- Click Save (two times)
- Go to Sending Routing, click Configure
- In the Recipient address field, enter the email address created in step 1, for example: journal@mycompany.com
- Click Save (two times)
- Click Save Settings to save the settings from the console

Step 2: Configure the Mail Server to Archive in GFI Archiver
After configuring the new journaling mailbox in Google Apps for Business, open GFI Archiver and from Mail Servers to Archive add the mailbox you created:
Note: GFI Archiver requires Active Directory and an equivalent user must exist in Active Directory.
- Go to Configuration > Mail Servers to Archive and click Add
- Select Manually create a journal mailbox using this wizard, then click Next
- Configure the Journal Mailbox Credentials using the newly created mailbox in Google Apps. Ensure that Connect Using field is set to IMAP.
- You must use SSL on port 993
- Use a full email address as the login
- Test the configuration by sending some emails to and from your Google Apps account and observe the GFI Archiver dashboard as the emails are being archived
Note: Mailbox Folder Structure Retrieval does not work with Google Apps for Business.
