Problem Summary

MARC sends email notifications to the admin with the mentioned error message although here is no AV or other 3rd party blocking the files mentioned on the server (MAIS is blocking itself).

How to Identify

Admin gets a high amount of MARC notifications of 2 different types (they arrive in bundles with a few minutes between them 2 of them) while importing emails via MAIS (Import service). 1. The first notification contains an error referring to an envelope-file in ..\MAIS\Queue: GFI MailArchiver failed to archive any emails into the backend database. The following error message was reported: The process cannot access the file '..\MailArchiver\MAIS\Queue\123.envelope' because it is being used by another process. 2. The second notification in such a bundle arrives shortly after (up to a few minutes) and reads: GFI MailArchiver has recovered from critical issues in the process of archiving emails. Any previous notifications about emails that could not be archived may be safely ignored. Important additional environment notes: - No anti-virus or other 3rd party software is installed on the MARC server which could also block access to the affected files - If anti-virus or other 3rd party software is installed it is 100% confirmed that exclusions are in place and that they are not touching MARC's files whatsoever

Workaround / Fix Details

This workaround does not fully eliminate these notifications, but should reduce them: 1. Stop the GFI MailArchiver Import service 2. Open the folder ..\MailArchiver\MAIS\Data 3. Create a subfolder named Backup 4. Create a copy of the file product.config into the Backup subfolder 5. Open product.config in notepad.exe 6. Add the following line alongside the other settings within the section: 7. Save the changes 8. Start the GFI MailArchiver Import service ----- Fixed: MAIS was rewritten in MARC 2014 build 20140616 (based on the code base of Core and the old MAIS). This issue should in theory not occur anymore from MARC 2014 onwards.

Required Actions

1. Ensure that AV exclusions are in place or confirm that no AV (or other 3rd party software that could touch MARC's files) is installed. 2. Upgrade to MARC2014.
