Manually Disabling Automatic Windows Update Checks

Information

While the Windows Update service is required for GFI LanGuard to function, there are instances when it can cause unexpected issues. The process of disabling Windows 10 automatic updates can be vague since the option is hidden. If you have Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, or Education edition, you can still turn off the automatic updates feature by following the steps provided below.

Note: The option to turn off automatic updates is not present in the Windows 10 Home edition.

Process

  1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows ( mceclip0.png ) + R keys. Type gpedit.msc and press the OK button to open the Local Group Policy Editor:

The Windows automatic update check and automatic downloads should be disabled, which should not affect GFI LanGuard.
