In what order does GFI WebMonitor process its policies?

Answer

WebMonitor 2013

The priority in which GFI WebMonitor policies are applied is in a top down fashion. This is the order of processing:
  1. Temporary Allowed
  2. Always Allowed
  3. Always Blocked
  4. Download Policies
  5. Internet Policies:
    • Web Filtering Policies
    • Instant Messaging/Social Control Policies
    • Streaming Media
    • Web Browsing Quota Policies
  6. Security Policies
Note: Within each policy type (i.e. Web Filtering Policies) you can have multiple policies. WebMonitor processes these in the order displayed. It checks the to see if the user is listed in the Apply policy to setting. If the user is listed (by name, Group or IP) this is the policy that is applied. Even if the user is listed in the next policy's Apply policy to setting, only the first policy is applied.

WebMonitor 2015 and later

All policies have been unified and displayed under the Manage > Policies node. The policies are processed in the order that they are displayed on the Policies Page. Disabled Policies will not be processed.
