Overview

GFI FaxMaker offers various ways to use the product in conjunction with a hosted email service.

Information

• SENDING

  • Using a specific MX record for Faxing (ex- fax.mydomain.com) - In this scenario:
    1. A company receives its emails as user@company.com
    2. To process email fax requests, the creation of a new MX record is required for the fax domain; for example, fax.company.com
       This MX record will then point to the public IP address of the GFI FaxMaker server.
    3. Follow the guideline about changing the faxmaker.com and smsmaker.com domains to allow GFI FaxMaker to accept those re-directed emails for fax.company.com rather than faxmaker.com
    4. Users will then be able to send faxes from their standard email client to #@fax.company.com (e.g. 19195551212@fax.company.com).
    5. These emails will be routed using DNS to the GFI FaxMaker server where they will be converted into a fax and subsequently sent to the recipient’s fax number.
    6. A transmission report will be delivered to the sending user via email where it can be accessed using their standard email client.
  • POP3 - When using this method:
    1. The administrator will need to create a dedicated fax mailbox such as fax@company.com .
    2. Users will then send fax emails to fax@company.com and specify the fax number as outlined in Send Email Fax Requests Using Text API.
    3. The GFI FaxMaker server needs to be configured to retrieve the emails from the fax@company.com mailbox using POP3, and the emails will be converted into a fax and sent to the recipient’s fax number.
    4. A transmission report will be delivered to the sending user via email where it can be accessed using their standard email client.
  • Hosted Server Email Routing - In some scenarios, the hosted mail server may be able to route emails addressed to Business Fax contacts or @faxmaker.com to the GFI FaxMaker server in the same way as when using an in-house Microsoft Exchange server.   • Using the GFI FaxMaker Client - Each user needs to have the GFI FaxMaker client installed on their workstation. This provides them with the print-to-fax functionality using the GFI FaxMaker printer and the ability to send faxes directly to the GFI FaxMaker server. After printing the desired document to the GFI FaxMaker printer, the GFI FaxMaker Message Form is launched, and the user has the option of entering the fax number manually or choosing the fax number from a contact list. Users have the option of accessing their Microsoft Outlook contacts or using a public or private GFI FaxMaker address book.
    1. After the user enters the subject and body text, if desired, then click “Send.” This will send the fax message via SMTP directly from their workstation to the fax server.
    2. The fax server will convert the message into a fax, send it to the recipient’s fax number, and return a transmission report to the sending user via email where it can be accessed using their standard email client. • RECEIVING
