Emojis Turning Into Chinese Characters When Sending Emails From KOFF

Overview

This article provides information about the limitation of Kerio Outlook Connector (KOFF) when sending emails with emoji characters, which display as Chinese characters/letters. The email HTML formatting differs from Plain Text and Rich Text options.

 


Diagnosis

Chinese characters show due to incorrect conversion of emoji characters, UTF-8 encoding/decoding transmission failures, and changes in font-related XML files. The issue occurs because of the MAPI protocol limitations.

 


Solution

Kerio Outlook Connector is fully compatible with HTML format only. Plain text and Rich text are only partially supported. Below are screenshots of messages containing emojis sent from Outlook KOFF to another email, viewed using Webmail
