Problem Summary

Installation of MailEssentials 20.2 fails. Installation log shows failed to find node: //configuration/appSettings

How to Identify

Go to Start\Run and enter %temp% Locate the most recent log with a name similar to gfimes_xxxxxxxxxxxxx_000_maininstall.x64.zip You may have to navigate back to the temp folder if the %temp% command opened in a sub folder of temp. Locate the error ExecXmlFile: Error 0x800710d8: failed to find node: //configuration/appSettings in XML file: C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\wwwrss\Web.config MSI (s) (40!FC) [22:02:28:931]: Product: GFI MailEssentials for Exchange/SMTP -- Error 25532.Failed to find node: //configuration/appSettings in XML file: C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\wwwrss\Web.config, system error: -2147020584

Workaround / Fix Details

Resolved in ME 20.3 Previous versions add: to the C:\Program Files (x86)\GFI\MailEssentials\EmailSecurity\wwwrss\Web.config file and rerun the installation.
