The router's MAC address is being listed instead of the computer's MAC address

Versions / Builds Affected

LanGuard 2011 SR1 build 20110817

Status

Resolved

Problem Summary

If a router is located between LanGuard and a scanned computer, the router's MAC address is being associated with the scanned computer rather than then MAC address of the computer itself.

How to Identify

1. Check the network design of the customer and if it's separated via routers 2. Open the dashboard and highlight the computer in question 3. Computer the MAC address of the computer against: - the real MAC address of the computer - the router's MAC address The router's MAC address would be shown.

Workaround / Fix Details

LanGuard 2011 SR2 build 20111128 introduced a change. With SR2 the MAC address is being read by a "hardware audit scan" (ensure that "Enable scanning for hardware devices" option is enabled in the scan profile). However, a following scan without hardware audit will revert to the router's MAC address.

Required Actions

Update to SR2 or later.
