Overview

Java 7 Update 2 lacks a command line parameter that might cause an unwanted reboot when it is being deployed to a computer. This article provides information on how to identify the problem and how to resolve the issue.

Environment

LanGuard 2011 Patch Management definitions 110+.

Root Cause

Description: The process msiexec.exe has initiated the restart of a computer name on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.

Reason: No title, for this reason, could be found.

Reason Code: 0x80030002.

Shutdown Type: Restart.

Comment: The Windows Installer initiated a system restart to complete or continue the configuration of 'Java(TM) 7 Update 2'.

Resolution

Please take the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. From the deployment screen, open the properties of the JAVA7002 patch.
2. Add the parameter REBOOT=ReallySuppress manually.

NOTE: The problem has been solved in LanGuard 2012.
