Overview
Some GFI products require the ability to communicate with a computer by using it's Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name.
A computer's UNC name is assigned to the computer when it is set up.
This article guides you on how to check a UNC name and ping it on the server.
Process
To determine the UNC name of a computer, do the following:
- Go to Start > Run and type
cmd
to open the command prompt. - In the command prompt, type:
hostname
In this example, the computer name is DC0:
To confirm that this name can be used to properly communicate with the computer:
- Open a command prompt on the server hosting the desired GFI product.
- Ping the name as you would an IP address:
