Making Data Execution Prevention (DEP) Exceptions

Overview

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature included in modern Operating Systems. It is known to be available in Linux, Mac OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems and is intended to prevent an application or service from executing code from a non-executable memory region.

Sometimes this feature can block GFI products from performing some necessary tasks and will block some necessary functionality of our products.

Process

We advise to turn on for essentials windows programs only:

  1. Go to StartControl Panel > System.

  2. Go to the Advanced tab and access the Performance Settings.

  3. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab.

  4. Enable the Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only radio button.

Note: If you need to make changes on this setting a reboot will be required to implement the change.
