How to Uninstall GFI WebMonitor from a machine running other GFI products

Answer

The un-installation of GFI WebMonitor unregisters components which are required by other GFI products. The procedure below explains how to register these components after uninstalling GFI WebMonitor from a machine running the following GFI products:

  • GFI FAXmaker
  • GFI MailArchiver
  • GFI MailEssentials
  • GFI MailSecurity

Registering the required files:

Note: Not all the DLL files listed in this procedure may be used by the GFI products mentioned above. If the DLL is not found, you would not need to register that particular DLL.

  1. Open Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd ).
  2. Change to the <..\Program Files\Common Files\GFI\common> directory.
  3. Run the following commands:
    regsvr32 htmlscrubber.dll
    regsvr32 strmobj.dll
  4. If GFI WebMonitor was installed on the same machine as GFI MailSecurity, proceed with this procedure. Otherwise skip to step 7
  5. Change to the <..\Program Files\GFI\ContentSecurity> directory
  6. Run the following command:
    regsvr32 gfimdb.dll
  7. If you uninstalled GFI WebMonitor 3, proceed with these steps, otherwise skip to step 10
  8. Change to the <C:\Windows\System32> directory.
  9. Run the following commands:
    regsvr32 OLE32.dll
    regsvr32
    oleaut32.dll
  10. Restart the services for the GFI application installed on the machine
  11. Restart the IISAdmin service

More Information:

The rest of the article provides more information on what issues may be encountered after uninstalling GFI WebMonitor if the mentioned DLL files are not registered.

Note: The issues explained below may be caused by other factors. If you encounter these issues, and you did not have GFI WebMonitor installed, kindly visit the links provided for each product, or contact GFI support.

GFI FAXmaker

You may encounter issues with GFI FAXmaker only if it is installed on the same machine as Microsoft Exchange server. In this case, GFI FAXmaker will not be able to process emails originating from Microsoft Outlook (MAPI) users.

GFI MailArchiver

Users will not be able to view archived emails from the GFI MailArchiver console. All emails will still be saved in the database, and once the procedure for registering the files mentioned above is followed, the users will once again be able to view the emails.

GFI MailEssentials

GFI MailEssentials will stop processing emails. Emails will bypass MailEssentials completely, and the GFI MailEssentials Monitor will show "Item Processing Unsuccessful". The Pop2Exchange functionality will also cease to work.

GFI MailSecurity

While the DLLs mentioned in the procedure above are un-registered, all emails processed by GFI MailSecurity will fail to process and will be stored in the <...\GFI\ContentSecurity\MailSecurity\FailedMails> folder.
