Answer

To configure a specific action for such file types, which are not included by default in the GFI WebMonitor file-type list, perform the following steps:
  1. Locate the content-type of the specific file-type
  2. Configure GFI WebMonitor to block or scan web downloads with the same content-type

Step 1: Locate the content-type of the object being downloaded

To check the exact content-type of the download using the following procedure in GFI WebMonitor 2015 and newer:

  2. Download the file
  3. Open the GFI WebMonitor Console
  4. Select Dashboard -> Activity -> Websites/Applications
  5. When the file is downloaded, click Refresh and locate the downloaded file in the URL field. If there are a lot of entries in the list, search for the URL of the downloaded file
  6. In the Status field, the content-type of the downloaded file can be verified
    • Example: application/x-ms-wmv is indicative of a *.wmv file
