File Types That GFI FaxMaker Can Convert

Overview

GFI FaxMaker includes a built-in conversion engine for the following document types:

  • PDF
  • HTML
  • PNG
  • GIF
  • JPG
  • RTF
  • TXT

This article provides information on the ways to convert different file types and reference links regarding document conversion.

Information

If you wish to attach and convert other document types, such as DOC, it can be done in two ways, at the server level or from the client level.

  • For the server level
You need to make sure Microsoft Windows has a default program to open the attachment you are trying to convert.  For example, if you attach a DOC file to send as a fax, the server will need Microsoft Office (or Microsoft Word) to be able to convert the document.
  • For the client level
    • You need to install the GFI FaxMaker Message Form, and with your Word document open, print to the GFI FaxMaker printer set up by the client install.
    • This will convert the document to a native file format and attach it to Microsoft Outlook or the GFI FaxMaker message form (based on how you installed GFI FaxMaker client).
    • When you send the email fax with the converted fax file, then there will be no need for a third-party application on the server (such as Microsoft Word) since it has been already converted.

Note:  If you use the server configuration, make sure you open all third-party applications you rely on and remove or disable any pop-ups that may occur. This can cause the conversion process to time out and prevent faxes from being sent.
